Spring 2017
Course: Design 6 -Industrial project
In collaboration with: Fredriksten Hotell
This course allowed us to freely choose a design project. Due to my involvement with Fredriksten Hotel, I wanted to explore the design of a new website, aiming to attract more guests. I wanted the website to showcase the hotel’s atmosphere and distinctiveness. Another stated goal was to design so that more bookings are done through the hotel’s own website, rather than external booking pages. To achieve this, the booking experience must be streamlined and simple for the user.

This project had a diverse group of users. Both business travelers and vacationers are in the target audience, and includes all ages and family statuses. To clarify the needs of the users, personas, scenarios, and user travels were important tools. For Fredriksten Hotel it is very important to showcase the unique atmosphere and distinctiveness of the fortress location. This meant that visual identity and image use was very important. A semantic image map was used as a method to emphasize the hotel’s distinctiveness. Focus groups and workshops were also used to gather good ideas and feedback.
